Dr. Shoemaker began working with Saint Leo as an adjunct in 2008. He has a BA in psychology from the College of William & Mary, an MA in applied psychology from Georgia College & State University, an MBA with a specialization in healthcare management from Saint Leo University, and a Ph.D. in industrial & organizational psychology from the University of South Florida. Before joining Saint Leo as full-time faculty, Dr. Shoe worked as an HR consultant for numerous organizations including Verizon Wireless, Fed Ex Freight, USF Zimmerman School, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department, PDRI, and the Prodigy Cultural Arts Program. He teaches in a variety of disciplines such as management, business administration, human resource management, healthcare administration and psychology. He is a member of the Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology, Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society for Business, Delta Epsilon Sigma Honor Society for Universities with a Catholic Tradition, Delta Nu, and he has earned senior certifications in Strategic Human Resource Management from both SHRM (SCP) and HRCI (SPHR).
Dr. Shoe has contributed research papers and presentations to peer-reviewed journals, conferences and proceedings; he has authored and co-authored several book chapters, cohosted a podcast, and serves on numerous university committees including the Faculty Senate, Graduate Curriculum Committee, and Saint Leo’s Institutional Review Board. Recent research interests include the impact of DEIB programs, turnover, industry prevalence of exit and “stay” interviews, orientation/onboarding, the value of WFH vs. RTO, and the value of professional certifications in industry.
