I was drawn to the online format and ability to pursue my terminal degree in education that Saint Leo offered. I do not reside in an area where programs like this are offered and being able to complete the coursework while continuing my teaching career in a rural area was ideal. The academic content is rigorous and tailored to learning how to lead in modern school systems. The Saint Leo professors were just a phone call away and willing to guide me through difficult coursework whenever I needed assistance. My colleagues in our cohort were brilliant, inspiring, and most of all, supportive. You get to really know each other and connect to one another on the doctoral journey. The dissertation process is streamlined, efficient, and designed for educational professionals to be successful with a timeline that is suitable for working educators. My chair and dissertation course professor were incredible, walking me through each step, and supporting me through the difficult legs of the dissertation process. I was able to complete my dissertation, complete the oral defense, and graduate on time.
Completing the Doctor of Education has taught me not only how to be an educational leader, but I have discovered how to be more confident and purposeful as an educator. I wasn't sure if I was capable of earning my doctorate in educational leadership as a secondary choral director, especially working with three kids. The professors worked with me in my career field to design a study that aligned with my area of expertise. One of the greatest rewards was seeing how proud my children were of their mother when I graduated. The lessons they learned watching me diligently work on assignments, readings, and my dissertation have inspired them as well. I would like to thank Saint Leo for creating a doctoral program that is compatible for working moms and educators, and for helping me achieve a lifelong dream.
